The creation and maintenance of life in a tahor, pure, manner, within the laws of Judaism, is largely under women’s control (cooking kosher, preparing shabbat and the holidays and keeping the laws of family purity). These are called las cosas de las señoras in northern Morocco. Women create the physical container for spirituality because the home is considered as the recipient of the divine presence, like a womb.
