Part of the Matheson Trust Sacred Audio Collection
Performed for over 1200 years, Gagaku has been carefully preserved and handed down to present day as music of the Japanese Imperial Court. Characterised by long, slow songs and dance-like movements, it is the oldest of the Japanese traditional performing arts, with deep roots in Japanese prehistoric origins and sacred institutions.
