Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, the closest friend of the Prophet Muhammad and the first Caliph of Islam according to Sunni tradition, is also, with Ali ibn Abi Talib, one of the fundamental links in the chain of transmission of all Sufi lineages. This prayer, taught to him by the Prophet, is reported by Imam al-Ghazali in his Revival of the Religious Sciences.
