The material universe will still have an eschatological role to play as a physical witness to the glory of God, even for the blessed who see God face to face, though for material things to play this role they will need ‘to receive a greater influx from the divine goodness, not so as to change their species, but so as to add a certain perfection of glory: and that will be the renewal of the world’ in the resurrection.
