Abu Hamid al-Ghazali
This is an excerpt from On Invocations and Supplications (Kitab al-adhkar wa-al-da‘awat),
book 9 of the Revival of the Religious Sciences (Ihya ulum al-din),
on “prayers for every emergent occasion”, including when entering the market, putting on a new garment, being in debt and many others.
Need requires supplication, and supplication brings back the heart to God with humility and submission, so that there results the remembrance of God, which is the noblest of the acts of worship.
